This is a stunning antique cameo, diamond and 14K white gold brooch measuring 1 7/8 inches (48.2 MM) long by 1 3/8 inches (38.1 MM) wide with a folding hinged bail enabling it to also be worn as a pendant. As early as 1805, craftsmen began using shell for cameos because it was easily carved due to its many layers, as compared to onyx or agate. Designs throughout history include many subjects. But, the most common of all is that of a noble Romanesque maiden with classic features, Roman dress, jewelry and intricately, often floral embellished hair. This carved shell cameo in high relief features a noble woman's profile with crisp and distinct features and details. She wears a beautiful 14K white gold heart necklace, prong set with a natural, genuine, untreated, full cut, fully faceted, sparkling .06CT round brilliant diamond of J color and VVS clarity with absolutely no visible imperfections. There are no chips or cracks in the diamond or the cameo, and the cameo is bezel set in a filigree gold frame that has a pin back with a secure lock. The brooch is marked, tested and guaranteed 14K and has been professionally cleaned and brightly polished. It weighs a substantial 14.6 grams. 25549
