Davis was selected Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference football for the 2011 college football season as voted on by the Sun Belt Head Coaches and Media Representatives. He also turned in solid showings at the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine. This tremendous effort led to him being drafted by the New York Jets in the 2012 NFL Draft.

His 135 combined tackles finished sixth in the league in 2017. He earned an overall grade of 87.3 from Pro Football Focus and received the eighth highest among all qualified linebackers in 2017.
On March 19th, 2018, the New Orleans Saints signed Davis to a three-year, million contract with million guaranteed and a signing bonus of .20 million. In Week 4, Davis recorded 11 tackles, two for a loss, and two sacks in a 33-18 win over the New York Giants, earning him NFC Defensive Player of the Week.

Shonn Greene and Bilal Powell combined for 155 yards rushing, each scoring on a short run, and the Jets improved their postseason chances with a 17-10 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
