Please make sure your scanner is packaged well. I suggest the following for safety
1. Use a large or medium size box (no small box please)
2. Obtain sheets of styrofoam (insulation type)
3. Trace the inside of your cardboard box onto styrofoam sheet with a marker
4. Use a utility knife or blade to cut out
5. Repeat until you have a stack of styrofoam sheets to fully fill your box
6. Trace your scanner and feeder onto the styroam sheet and repeat for all but the top and bottom sheet
7. Cut out your scanner and feeder "pockets" for a good form-fit styrofoam surround.
Issues solved or reduced by this maintenance
a. Haze or fuzzy murky images
b. Noise (lack of lubrication)
c. A few types of errors caused by dirty sensors
d. For those scanners with feeders (intermitant jams or failure to feed or multi-feeds)
e. Worried owner about the quality of scans
f. Blue scans are caused by thick heavy dust on the mirror
g. Autofocus issues caused by thick heavy dust on the mirror
h. Too much dust overwhelms your ICE system (ICE not applicable to all models) and gives software errors

"Unknown Film Holder" and "no film inserted" error messages sometimes caused by dirt and debris
j. Intermittant power switch - power switch is replaced with a new one - if needed
k. Tray does not move properly - broken/cracked plastic shaft collar is replaced with a new metal part
l. Blue/Purple images (caused by thick dust overwhelming Nikon's built-in "ICE" dust correction system)
When I am done cleaning and calibration, I will seal the unit thoroughly with plastic wrap. This ensures the scanner is kept clean from packing material dust on its return trip to you. I care about doing a great thorough job for you.
NOTE:
